The Misadventures of Emcee Tingbudong, an exhibition showcasing Hip Hop influence on Beijing culture, and how it has manifested its own following. Dope event, inspiring art, and interesting folks. I wasn’t blown away by the fact that Hip Hop has reached cultures out of its own birthplace, because unlike most genres Hip Hop, the whole culture, is a movement all people no matter color or creed can relate to. I was left open because the one who put the event together, Jamel Mims, took his time out to explore the culture and spread knowledge to us.
The whole event was inspiring. To venture out of your comfort zone and explore other regions of the world that have the same intense interest in the culture you were raised in. Millions of miles away. An awesome achievement.
“The ethnography sheds light on the process of sub-cultural transmission—challenging a politics of imitation with a politics of conversation. They aren’t simply copying what they see in American hip hop. There is in fact an intercultural dialogue going on, if we only dare to listen.” –Jamel Mims, artist
